Under cover area

The under cover area was built in 2010. It is used every lunch time for games and play, each Monday for parade and any events that we host like Easter bonnet parade, Anzac and Remembrance Day ceremonies and book parade. Peak Air and Ross River Rotary donated fans for the under cover area which have become a great addition to our parades in summer.

Playground

Bluewater State School has a fantastic array of play areas situated on site. We boast the following - 25m flying fox, three separate play structures, large sand pit, 400m track, rugby league/union oval, three quarter AFL oval, tennis court, basketball court and three small soccer ovals. We are endeavouring to add to the play areas to make play time, fun, adventurous and exciting.

Environmental sustainability projects

Sustainability is one of the key curriculum drivers here at Bluewater State School. We incorporate sustainability, in both a theoretical sense and through practical application, into as many aspects of our learning as possible.

Sustainability projects are integral to the operation of the school and new projects are trialled and introduced each year. Wherever possible, our sustainability initiatives are designed, built and managed on an ongoing basis by students. We currently have:

Water harvesting

Bluewater State School has two water tanks with a capacity of 90,000 litres. These tanks supply water for our worm farm and gardens.

Solar power

Bluewater State School currently operates a photovoltaic system. The system generates power for general school usage.

Butterfly

Around the school we have planted native Dutchman Pipe Vines that attract the gorgeous Cairns Birdwing butterfly. We also have the host plants for the Ulysses (Dunk Island) butterfly.

Orchard and vegetable gardens

There are numerous vegetable gardens around our school. Gardening commences in Prep and students plant vegetables according to the seasons. The school also hosts numerous fruit trees throughout the playground including mulberries, soursop, lemon, grapefruit, mandarin, lime, olive, white guava etc.

Worm farm

Our worm farm utilises organic waste and provides our school gardens with valuable fertiliser in the form of worm castings and worm tea.
