At Bluewater State School, students have the opportunity to learn to play instruments from the strings, woodwind, percussion and brass groups. Students audition to be eligible to play in the Instrumental Music Program and they do not require any prior musical skills. Students can play the following instruments:
Year 3 – 6: Violin, Viola, Cello and Double Bass
Years 4 – 6: Flute, Clarinet, Saxophone, Trumpet, Trombone and Percussion
Department funding provides selected children with one small group lesson per week conducted by a qualified music teacher and access to our loan instruments for one year. At the end of the first year parents are required to buy or hire an instrument so that the school instrument can be reloaned to a beginning student. The initial cost to parents is the purchase of a music tutor book, a music stand (optional for home practice) and necessary consumables for each instrument.
Students in the program from Years 4 to 6, who practice regularly and reach an appropriate standard, will have the opportunity to play in the school string ensemble or school band. Band rehearsals usually run during break times.
Students at Bluewater who are members of the Instrumental Music Program have opportunities throughout the year to participate in performances on weekly parades, special ceremonies including ANZAC Day and Remembrance Day, at our annual school Country Fair, Christmas Concert and Eisteddfod.
