Arts performances
Arts Performances visit Bluewater State School throughout the year. These touring programs are designed for primary school students and all link to the school curriculum using an interactive style which promotes ‘The Arts.’ These performances are engaging and students enjoy participating in them. Students may also be involved in attending performances at the Civic Theatre or Riverway. Participating in these performances is an optional activity for students and costs are payable by parents.
Choir
The Bluewater State School Choir is traditionally made up of students from Years 2 to 6. Our choir is formed to perform at school events, including Anzac and Remembrance Day ceremonies, the Eisteddfod and the Christmas Concert. The choir rehearses once a week, with extra rehearsals leading up to special events. A Bluewater State School Choir Uniform shirt is provided to choralists to wear when performing.
Code club
Code Club is run twice a week during lunch breaks by our Technology Student Leader and Staff. Code Club is available to all students and it caters for beginners wanting to learn code to enthusiasts wanting to further develop their coding skills. Some of the activities include: using Ozo Bots, making a game using the program Scratch, designing keychains using 3D printer software and printing them using the 3D printer, flying drones and building robots.
Healthy Habits
Healthy Habits runs each Friday morning from 8am to 8.30am. All students, parents, grandparents, aunties, uncles and anyone from the community are invited to come along and join in getting active. Everyone is welcome to walk, jog, run or skip around our 220 metre circuit. We record how many laps are completed as a group and then calculate how many kilometres have been covered in total. These results are then displayed on a map in the Undercover Area where we are working towards walking around Australia. Come long and join in the fun and get active.
Opti-MINDS
Opti-MINDS is an annual event that students can apply to be a part of. They participate in a selection process with 7 students selected to represent Bluewater State School at this event. It is a creative problem solving challenge where teams are required to work together on a Long Term Challenge for up to six weeks without direct adult intervention. Students in the team are encouraged to explore possibilities and experiment with ideas as they endeavour to produce their best possible solution. They then develop creative and original ways to communicate this solution to others, working within predefined parameters. They have 10 minutes in which to present their solution to a panel of judges and an audience. Students also participate in an unseen Spontaneous Challenge on Opti-MINDS Challenge Day. See the Opti-MINDS website for more information.
